May 12 – Our first blast

News Blast

Thanks for supporting Save Bonnerworth Park! This is our first news blast, and we have a lot of great information to share, including several calls to action. Read on…

1. Listen to Ontario Morning this Monday May 13, 8:10 am.

One of our members, D’Arcy Jenish, will be interviewed on CBC’s Ontario Morning about the park redevelopment. We hope you can catch his interview! If you miss it, we’ll post the recording on our website.

2. Support Councillor Lachica this Monday May 13, 6 pm at General Committee.

Also this Monday May 13, Joy Lachica is tabling a motion to bring the Bonnerworth Park project back to City Council once the technical studies are complete. You can read her motion here. Save Bonnerworth Park members will be in the room to provide support – please join us if you’re able.

3. Attend City Council Tuesday May 21, 6 pm: we need a strong show of support!

Deputations from both sides of the issue will be made at this Council Meeting. We are hoping to pack the room to the rafters. The Raging Grannies will be showing support through song outside City Hall!

4. Show your love of Bonnerworth Park in person Saturday May 18, 1 pm.

Father Leo, an outspoken Peterborough figure is recording a video about Bonnerworth on the Saturday of the long weekend. This video will be in support of Marycrest residents who live directly across from the planned pickleball facility. We need people in the park, playing and showing how well used the space is.

5. Share the petition & speak out!

We’ve hit well over 3000 signatures. Members from our group have been at the Farmer’s Market and have gone door-to-door with paper petitions, garnering an additional 483 signatures. Compare this to the City survey on connectptbo.ca which had 842 respondents. Let’s keep up the momentum – forward it to help us reach 5000 by the Council meeting on May 21! We’ve had some excellent traction in the news and great support from our local Town Ward councillors. Please keep writing to City representatives and sending your letters to the editor.

6. Check out the SBP website: savebonnerworthpark.ptbo.org

The Save Bonnerworth Park website is constantly being developed – keep checking for new materials and updates. A new resources page with technical documents is now available. If you’d like to track news articles about the issue, check out “In the News”, coming soon!

7. Order your lawn sign(s) online

Save Bonnerworth Park lawn signs are popping up like spring flowers! Order yours (and maybe a couple for your neighbours) from our website here! The cost to cover production is $10.

Thanks for reading this far – hope to see you in person soon!
